Job Summary
The Protection Technician will be responsible for carrying out operation and maintenance activities related to transmission and distribution protection systems. The role involves installing, testing, commissioning, monitoring, and maintaining protection devices that help safeguard electrical equipment and ensure system reliability.
Key Responsibilities
Successful candidates will perform the following duties:
- Carry out site installation of protection devices and substation equipment related to system stability.
- Implement preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance on protection devices.
- Participate in testing and commissioning of protection equipment and devices.
- Maintain AC and DC systems located at various substations.
- Apply transmission-related operational and maintenance procedures.
- Ensure proper storage and record management of protection testing equipment and kits.
- Maintain transmission facilities and ensure good housekeeping practices.
- Support the improvement of transmission and distribution protection systems.
- Follow all safety procedures while conducting maintenance and installation activities.
- Implement environmental protection measures during assigned operations.
- Ensure effective utilization of equipment, tools, and materials.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must possess one of the following qualifications:
- A1 in Electrical Technology
- A1 in Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering
- A1 in Mechanical Engineering
- A1 in Renewable Energy
- A1 in Power System Engineering
Skills and Competencies
Candidates with the following abilities may have an added advantage:
- Knowledge of electrical protection systems.
- Understanding of transmission and distribution networks.
